Eames sits within the Provenance Collection, drawing inspiration from the experimental spirit of Charles and Ray Eames and their pioneering work with moulded plywood. Their approach to layering veneers, shaping contour, and blending material honesty with modern clarity informs the palette of this floor. Soft, bleached browns merge with off-white pigments in a gentle wash across the surface, creating a tone that feels balanced, refined and quietly architectural. The colour holds a lightness reminiscent of plywood panels shaped under pressure, where subtle variations in shade reveal depth without heaviness. Crafted by hand in Cheshire, each board follows the Provenance method: slow hard-wax oiling that penetrates the oak unevenly, allowing tone to settle naturally across the grain. This produces a clean, measured finish with delicate shifts that echo the layered construction of the Eames idiom. The result is a floor with a calm, modern sensibility—softly textured, thoughtfully toned and rooted in the idea of material origin and meticulous experimentation.

Provenance Collection

The Provenance Collection reflects the origin of our craft. Over two decades of experimentation with oils, primers, tannin-reactive compounds, and slow-drying techniques have shaped these finishes. These early studies laid the groundwork for our approach as modern colourists and finishers.

Handcrafted in Cheshire

Each board is hand-crafted in Cheshire, where hard-wax oiling remains central to the Provenance method. Applied slowly and with intention, the oil penetrates the surface at varying depths, creating natural shifts in tone rather than a uniform coating. This subtle irregularity brings forward the character of the oak while keeping the finish clean, honest and grounded.
